Flamingo Beach Marina Developers
Matapalo DEMM Will Build New Flamingo Beach MarinaAfter much deliberation, the Municipal Council of Santa Cruz has approved a bid from marina developers, Desarrollo de Marinas Matapalo DEMM S.A. to build a new marina in Flamingo Beach, Costa Rica. This decision comes after a long line of companies and groups put in their own bids. At the beginning, eight different groups wanted to be the ones to build the marina, as well as any shops and hotels that would go around it and be a part of the design. After some time, that number was then whittled down to four. In mid-April 2008, the Municipal Council decided on the Matapalo DEMM as the new Flamingo Beach Marina developers, although it wasn't unanimous. Two of the seven council members disagreed with the decision, but majority won out here. Some didn't like the plans that Matapalo DEMM, the new marina developers, brought forward because of the potential affect it may have on the environment. Some believe that their construction plans would interfere with the natural soil erosion in the area.
While this group has won the bid, the planning phase has just begun. Their construction plans need to be approved by the council as well as various local environmentalists. This will help them decide which actions to take. While the original reports said that the Municipal Council would earn $459,000 each year from this deal, this is only an estimate. After the planning phase, this number may be vastly different.
Although the long-awaited Flamingo Beach Marina now has a company financing its construction, it will still be several years before the construction is complete. Once it has been though, you can be sure that there will be a new growth in the local tourism and land prices. Matapalo DEMM, the new Flamingo Beach Marina Developers and the Municipal Council are not only looking to make money for themselves, but they are also dedicated to helping the economy of this amazing Costa Rican coastal town. |
